About the event
Screening: Vivensurgencies
This short film program moves beyond survival, celebrating the radical act of thriving within the neo-colonial Canadian-global context. Through dance and movement, these films embody resistance, resurgence, and joy—the camera a conduit for the political force of the body in motion. Merging traditional and contemporary practices, the works honour Indigenous and Afro-descendant knowledges, diasporic memory, cultural reclamation, and collective creation. Embodied movement—both choreographed and spontaneous—becomes a form of political expression, where the body is not only shaped by histories of displacement, marginalization, and resistance but actively reshapes them. Each gesture, step, and breath assert presence and sovereignty, holding past, present, and future together. More than a showcase of Latin American movement artistry, these films offer a window into the richness of Latin American identities and the solidarities that emerge within and across communities. The program is co-presented by F-O-R-M and Vanguardia Dance Projects.
